BrazilIn August of this year, a tiny team from Norway and the United States was sent by women in networking to serve a mission in Brazil. It was mother and daughter, Helen and Amanda Delos Reyes from California, and me. We met at the airport in the capital Porto Alegre in the very south of Brazil and found the tone immediately. From there we went directly to the orphanage Lar Padilha in the municipality of Taquara. Here I am well known. In two periods I have lived and worked as a volunteer — first in 1995/96, then a new year in 2008. There have also been many visits over the years.

Now I'm back with a team to preach the gospel to over 80 children and adolescents aged 10-18 years. Most are abondonadas that's children abandoned by their parents because of poverty, violence, abuse and the like. They are in desperate need of love and appreciation. They need hope for the future. They need Jesus. In a series of three evenings, we share testimonies and gospel. Amanda gives a strong and touching message about Jesus who died for our sins and who rose again. Everyone is heavily touched.

Between 40 and 50 children and young people accept Jesus as their saviour. We pray for all and many people experience to be set free from fear, nightmares, bitterness, hatred and disappointments. Hope illuminates in every child and they experience the love of God's father.

We have with us Cleber do Amaral. I got to know him 20 years ago when he as a little boy lived in Lar Padilha. Now he is a youth pastor in a major city and on fire for Jesus. He shares his testimony. It's mighty to see how young boys flock around him to hear him tell more about Jesus.

In Norway, there has been a crown roll that allows us to buy 100 Bibles, which we fill with personal scriptures and give as a farewell gift. One of the boys jumps up and down on the floor in excitement at the Bible verse he receives: "Even if my mother or father leaves me, the Lord will take care of me!" Psalm 27.10 (ov replaced from a Brazilian bible). He discovers in the depths of his heart that even though both parents are dead, he is not forgotten and alone. Precious. So thank you so much for the financial support, KIN Rogaland !!!

Cleber has now agreed to disciple children and young people in Lar Padilha. We are a couple of pieces that will sponsor him with travel and cost expenses. More can join to support him. Now it remains that the management at the orphanage gives its approval. We pray and wait for a positive answer.

I am eternally grateful to God and to women in networking for this wonderful mission journey to Brazil. Lets Padilha have been my heart child for many, many years. To experience a wide open door for the gospel is great and shows us the care and love our father has for his abandoned and forgotten children.

Missionary greeting from the Annics
